FILOMENA REALE
The artist, as a brilliant creator of beauty, draws on the perceptible world to create what transcends mere appearance. For Filomena Reale, every work arises from wonder and the desire to capture the essence of the world around us. As John Paul II suggested in his letter to artists, beauty does not merely satisfy, but inspires and fills with wonder those who observe it and those who create it. It is precisely this search for the sublime that transforms every work into a spiritual experience, where the 'beauty that saves' leads the viewer beyond the visible, toward a deeper and more universal understanding.
Filomena Reale is an Italian artist with deep roots and a cosmopolitan outlook. Her artistic training took shape across cities rich in history and culture, such as Roma, Spello, Napoli, and Torino, as well as places with a more international feel, like Paris, Miami, and New York. These places, each with their own distinct artistic tradition and identity, have helped shape her creative sensibility. Growing up across such different environments allowed her to absorb a wide range of artistic influences, which come through in her work as a blend of styles and techniques. Her artistic journey has been further enriched by formal study and broad experimentation with various materials and techniques. In 2024, she received a Diploma of Merit from the I.A. Bunin State Faculty in Russia, a meaningful recognition confirming her excellence and dedication to art. Filomena's career is marked by an ongoing exploration of the relationship between human beings and the natural world — themes that come through strongly in both her abstract and figurative compositions. Filomena Reale's work has been shown in numerous galleries and art fairs, both in Italy and abroad, and is held in private collections around the world. Her work is admired for its ability to stir deep, universal emotions, offering viewers a unique sensory and reflective experience. Filomena continues to live and work in Italy, where her studio serves as an ever-evolving workshop of ideas, fueled by her inexhaustible artistic curiosity. Filomena Reale's Art: A Sensory and Reflective Experience Filomena works in mixed media on canvas, creating compositions that blend abstraction, realism, and figuration, reflecting the complexity of human emotion and the beauty of the natural world. Each piece invites an inner journey, where the visible and the invisible meet in visual dialogue. Filomena explores themes such as identity, memory, and spirituality, using a rich palette of colors and textures to create canvases that pulse with energy and depth. Her work is designed to transform the space it inhabits, stirring both reflection and emotion. Filomena Reale's pieces are the result of ongoing exploration with technique and material. She works with pastel on paper, oil and acrylic on supports like canvas and metal, combining palette knife and brush to build richly textured surfaces. Her compositions range from abstract to figurative, where close attention to detail and a bold use of macro-scale format allow even the smallest details to be elevated. Her command of mixed media lets her create work that stands out for its energy and emotional intensity. Color is a key tool for Filomena, one she uses expressively to bring her canvases to life, transforming the spaces where they're shown and offering viewers a unique sensory experience. A central theme in her work is the representation of the human figure, particularly faces, which for Filomena become a way of expressing the dignity and inherent beauty of every person. Her portraits don't simply capture physical appearance — they try to reveal the soul, the spiritual essence, and lived experience of each subject, boldly engaging with social and current issues along the way. With her ULIVO collection, Filomena explores the symbolism of the olive tree as an emblem of peace, strength, and connection to the land. This series reflects her commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment, translating nature's beauty and resilience into a powerful artistic narrative.
