Rosario Oliva was born in Napoli in 1965 — a city steeped in art and full of deep passions. From a young age, he wove together his love of painting and drawing with his education, first attending the Istituto d'Arte in Napoli, then going on to specialize in illustration at IED — Istituto Europeo di Design in Roma. It was in Roma that his professional career began: Oliva made his name as an illustrator, creating illustrations, storyboards, animations, and shootingboards for some of the leading advertising agencies and production houses in Italy and Europe. His work sits behind some of the most famous ad campaigns for brands like Nissan, Alitalia, Telecom, and many others. Starting in 1997, Oliva embraced the new frontiers of digital creativity, broadening his artistic language through digital illustration, photo retouching, 3D imaging, and animation. Creative director and digital artist first at Olivastudio and now at Pixelheads Studio, as well as a digital animation instructor at NABA — Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, he explored and mastered the endless possibilities of digital art. Yet, after years devoted to the intangible realm of pixels, Oliva felt a deep, irresistible pull to return to the tactile dimension of painting — to touch what he creates, to smell it, to reconnect with the physicality of the creative act. And so began his renewed journey into traditional painting. In recent years he has taken part in numerous exhibitions, both solo and group, nationally and internationally, earning prestigious recognition and awards, with some of his works going under the hammer at auction. Rosario Oliva's painting moves between figuration and abstraction. His artistic language draws on a wide range of techniques: from acrylic on canvas to charcoal on cardboard, from oil to watercolor, with occasional returns to digital tools.
