MARIA GIACHETTI
Maria Giachetti Lives in Settimo Rottaro in the province of Turin, born in 1976, she is a contemporary artist and Restorer of cultural heritage pursuant to former art. 182c. 1bis of Legislative Decree 42/2004 and subsequent amendments. She completed both the Liceo Artistico in Ivrea (TO) with full marks in 1994 and the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin in 1999, graduating in Painting under the chair of Italo Bressan. Over the following years, her artistic training and the activity of restoration of cultural heritage have intertwined and inspired each other, the two different worlds have intertwined while maintaining a different approach to the work of art. After her academic training, pictorial experimentation has undergone unexpected evolutions for the artist, from almost hyper-realistic figurative beginnings she is now in a period of abstract futurist experimentation combined with knowledge of ancient materials. Her works are present in private collections. The uniqueness of the artist's works are the fabrics and materials used: the fabric for preparing the canvas is over a hundred years old, made of hemp fiber; the hemp was spun and woven in ancient times in Canavese, the artist's homeland, and reused for the creation of contemporary works; the fabrics were acquired and given to the artist mainly by people who did not use them. Recently, night clothes that were created to match the sheets have also been used in the works. Thanks to the knowledge he gained from the world of restoration, ancient techniques were experimented with and then applied to the contemporary that had never been known before; a good part of the pigments used were obtained personally in his studio/laboratory, such as the ochres that come from the nearby mines in Valchiusella and the blacks obtained from the pruning branches of the surrounding vineyards, the mineral cinnabar ground in the laboratory from Mount Amiata. All the pigments used are of vegetal or mineral origin and used according to the recipe book of Cennino Cennini's art.
