Un opera astratta ed espressiva di una barca che si perde in mezzo ad un mare? o forse altro

ALESSANDRA OF ORTONA

My art allows me to shine a light on the oblivion in which people who are ignored and excluded from society find themselves. If we want a provocative art to spread messages of social denunciation in a chromatic key. An art to communicate the problems of the world: atrocities of war, pollution, abuse of power, homophobia, femicide, social inequalities, deaths at sea of migrants, gender discrimination... As an artist I feel the responsibility to take a stand, not to stand by and watch. Art is beauty, but not only. Colors allow me to protest to improve. All the colored faces carry with them a story enclosed in a title, in the features, in the break-ins on the bodies, in the variegated signs and marks, as well as in the mottled signatures and tell the story of MULTITUDES. My canvases aim to break the silence of the oppressed and offer a voice to each of them and to those who, normally, do not have one. My art allows me to take a stand against war, violence and discrimination. I am aware that protest art is not always appreciated by everyone, but my intent is precisely to awaken consciences on the contemporaneity in which we live, full of contradictions. I represent the "colored pain" that all today's problems force people to suffer the weight of. Metaphorically I "attack" the public by proposing the representation of the distortions of a society that have an impact on the subjects represented who, in turn, become "distortions". However, optimism reigns in me, Life smiles at me and I am convinced that improvement can happen. I communicate this positivity with the use of strong, showy and decisive colors. The Covid-19 emergency, which has dramatically marked the Earth and its people, has certainly been the opportunity to reflect further. From there, emotions and thoughts have influenced my art. I represent the not beautiful, the wound, the unresolved, the unheard, and I try to include them in beauty. I like to think that there is beauty in the not beautiful, in the wound. On the canvas I highlight the feelings of anguish and great pain that many people have experienced and live in solitude and with dubious prospects. The faces, the silhouettes, the symbols... recall such feelings and denounce human fragility. However, the colors used are the chromatic declaration of a New Hope: now is the time to have a new look at the world, more colorful. The colors testify to the desire for Rebirth, the colors are the antibodies of Solidarity. For each color used there is an invitation to break down every barrier, there is the One who helps the other because "no one is saved alone" (quote from Pope Francis). Each figure, each face is placed side by side so that one can perceive the shared pain, the solidarity between men, each at the side of the other, ready to fight together to accompany and support each other. In front of my works the eye gets caught in a tangle of apparently extraneous shapes that cannot be traced back to reality. Warm and cold tones dance chaotically alternating in a harmonious chromatic rhythm. But it is precisely in the moment in which one is captured by the magnetic force of color that the gaze finally glimpses what was hidden in the texture of the canvas. Bodies, faces, symbols emerge from the depths, bursting onto the scene. They are existences whose appearances seem to blend into one another but at the same time each of them expresses an individuality that distinguishes it, allowing it to emerge from its babel context and to claim its own personal meaning. My pictorial gesture finds and welcomes with love these entities that through art find their own space to exist. An art of mine, which perhaps recalls street art and graffiti. This connection is given by one of the purposes of art: a socio-cultural phenomenon that needs to protest. I make my protest on the canvas. For now.
